World Environment Day 2023

World environment day

“What’s the use of a fine house if you haven’t got a tolerable planet to put it on?”  Henry David Thoreau

We need the environment more than the environment needs us.  It provides the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the resources we use to support our lifestyles and the advancement of human civilization.  So it’s in our best interest to take care of the environment that takes care of us.

And there are many ways, large and small, to support the environment (and not just one “right” way).

  • If you choose to simplify your life and reduce your consumption,
    you help the environment.
  • If you reuse things until they are completely worn out,
    you help the environment.
  • If you recycle paper, plastic, and metal, so they can be used as raw materials for new products, you reduce the resources extracted from nature, and
    you help the environment.
  • If you borrow a tool from a friend or a book from the library, instead of buying,
    you help the environment.
  • If you buy secondhand instead of new, you save yourself some money, and
    you help the environment.
  • And if you pass your unwanted things along to others (friends, neighbors, thrift stores),
    you help the environment.

Every little bit counts.

Here at Swampum, we’re building a platform that will make it easier for you to be kinder to the environment.  Whether you want to pass some unwanted clothing along to friends, grab a used book from someone in your neighborhood, or borrow a tool instead of buying a new one, we’re committed to making it easier for you to help keep things out of the landfill. Join us!
